Coco avant CHANEL

Jem: Ooh! I am looking forward to this movie something fierce. It combines so many of the things I love: french, Audrey Tautou, Coco Chanel, period piece dramas, love and Alessandro Nivola. The fact that my former celeb hubby is in this feels so random to me. But his French is amazingly good.
The movie is coming out in France on April 22nd but no North American release date has been set yet.
C'est si bon!

My dream hair

Jem: So it's that time of year again...the time of year when I usually chop all my hair off. My hairdresser, Natalie is under strict instructions not to let me do this. I have to tell you, I'm feeling the urge to have a cute, flirty bob but between my friend Chen and Natalie, I think I'm covered.

Gidget, your BFF needs some advice. Ideally, I want my long hair to look like Blair Waldorf's. And it's getting there...sloooowly. Do you think I should stick with it??

Confessions of a Disappointed Jem

Jem: I was actually looking forward to this movie. I'm a pretty big fan of the first 2 books (I was totally bored by the 3rd one) and since I love chick-lit, romance novels, RomComs, and pretty much ANYTHING to do with love, I was in!!

What a disappointment!!! I didn't understand why they butchered the book until I found out that it's a Disney movie...ugh! Normally I like Disney movies but I think their live-action movies need to stick to the Sports Genre. Disney makes a mean Sports movie.

So, here are a few things I loathed about the movie - in no particular order:

- They made Rebecca Bloomwood out to be an idiot!! The Becky Bloomwood I know and love is a smart lady. She's just not very good with her money. She was a character I could relate to in that she knows what she's doing but it's way more fun being irresponsible.

- The clothes! Dear God, the clothes! They were so horrible!!! She looked like a cross between Carrie Bradshaw and Elle Woods. I wanted to throw up! Becky Bloomwood was originally British but I get why they made her American (still stupid) but nonetheless, she's a NEW YORKER!!! Why is she wearing this crap?? Becky wears quality classic pieces. A lot of black, white and grey. She is not a trend-whore!

- Why did they choose Hugh Dancy to play Luke Brandon? And why is Luke Brandon her boss? Luke Brandon is supposed to be a successful man! A man with style and charisma and a whole lot of confidence - think Mr. Darcy. (At least, I think Mr. Darcy - but more slick) I also hate that he's her boss in the movie. It's way more fun that she has to do the TV show with him while thinking he hates her.

Does this guy look slick to you???

- I don't like how Becky has to apply for the job at Successful Savings. In the book, she's already been working there for ages and she amazes herself at how much she knows about boring Financial Stuff. And it's also a really interesting part of her character because she knows what she's SUPPOSED to do, she just doesn't do it.

- They made Derek Smeath a creepy, mean loser!! How awful! Why is he a bad guy in the movie? In the book, it's true that he constantly calls Becky (um, it's his job) but when she finally decides to face up to her responsibilities, he's actually a really nice man who wants to help her get out of debt. He's a real person. And he should have been portrayed that way. Becky's debt is her fault; not Derek Smeath's!!

- They left out some of the best bits! Like how Becky decides to go on a date with Tarquin when she finds out he's rich and she envisions marrying him even though she can't stand him and how Tarquin and Suze are actually cousins (but they end up together anyway) and how one day Becky decides she's going to save money by writing down everything she spends...but first she has to buy a really cute notebook and pen and ends up spending close to $40! And how she decides she's going to make more money by making designer picture frames but she's terrible at making them and is so far from crafty. But Suze is actually really good at them and ends up making quite a lot of money off of her frames. She even becomes a little bit famous when they start selling her frames in shops (OH! And Becky keeps buying them!!! I just remembered that part! In the end, it turns out Becky is the one making Suze so successful because she keeps buying the frames to save as gifts...now THAT's a funny story!)

Disney and I are on a time out until a Sports movie comes out. I will never forgive them for this watered-down version of a really fun story!

And the clothes!!! Dear God, the clothes. Excuse me while I go throw up!!

Didn't You Get The Message? He's Just Not That Into You
It's beginning to look a lot like Valentines, everywhere you go.

gidget: If you are a fan of romcom's this is may be your favorite pat of the movie season (hello! we have had Bride Wars, New In Town and next week Confessions of a Shopaholic). This past Friday saw the release of the constantly delayed self-help book turned movie He's Just Not That Into You.
I am sure you have seen the trailers for the film, and can gather what the film is about. Here's a hint....... it's about how if a guy isn't showing you he digs you then he doesn't dig you That much. Or is it?
Jennifer Connelly and Gennifer Goodwin (note the adorb. outfit of G.G' in the background)

Why is Hollywood so afraid to make a romcom that is, just a little, honest? This film proposes that it is going to demonstrate how if a guy is not into you, you should move on to a boy who does. With a large ensemble cast, the film juggles multiple story-lines that could possibly demonstrate how the HJNTIY hypothesis is true. Simple enough.
Without giving too much away, i will just state that the film fails to deliver on the message it is supposedly attempting to deliver. In the end, many of the stories wrap up ever so sweetly.
Screw it! With a title like He's Just Not That Into You i wanted something quick and snappy.
he's talking to me and leaning into me.
that must mean he loves me, right?

One story should swiftly lead to another. Less focus on obsessing and more on the realization that there are boys who are That Into You and are not afraid to show it. News Flash: you may have to move on from your fantasies and current obsession to find him! The film should have saved the money it spent on buying the rights to the title and just been called Exception To The Rule.

Now, let us talk about the clothes. i loved Ginnfer Goodwin's outfits in the film! Loved them! And her hair cut and color were adorable. I recently read an interview with the film's stylist and she claimed that Ginnfer and her worked closely on creating the style of Goodwin's character Gigi. Gigi was suppose to be trying to hard to be cute and fail, just slightly, on being stylish. I think the stylist failed miserably if that was what the audience was suppose to think! She just looks cute. ScarJo's clothes and hair (emphasis on the hair), on the other hand, were disgusting. Perhaps the bad hair was meant to distract us from the fact that she can not act her way out a paper-bag. If that was the case, the stylist failed miserably.

Positives: gigi's clothes, genifer goodwin's performance, jennifer aniston and ben afflecks chemistry, a couple good giggles, the cute movie poster for the film.

Negatives: too long, not enough giggles, takes itself too seriously, fails to deliver on the message of the title, scarjo's hair and performance, drew barrymore channeling her josie grossie character (not in clothing style, just in facial expressions) from Never Been Kissed yet lacking the actual charm of Josie.

New in Town

Jem: Okay, so I saw this movie last night and it was kinda cute. It definitely wasn't the best RomCom ever made, that's for sure. I mean it was SOOO predictable. I mean, there wasn't a single surprise!!

Actually, strike that. During the first 5 minutes of the movie, I was questioning if I was in the right theatre. Because what was going on? Why did I feel like I'd stumbled into the theatre for Fargo 2? Oh, and as someone who grew up 45 minutes from Northern Minnesota; where the hell did those accents come from? Closer to Wisconsin and North Dakota, I'd wager. I mean, why bother studying the WRONG accent???

I went to this movie expecting another Doc Hollywood and I got a watered-down version. Luckily, Harry Connick Jr. is better eye candy than Michael J. Fox (don't get me wrong, I love Michael J. but he's not really my type).

And I get the whole we-need-a-love-story-so-women-will-be-sucked-into-seeing-this-movie thing but it sort of seemed like the HCJ character - oh wait, his name was Ted, now I remember - yeah. It seemed like the Ted character wasn't over the death of his wife. So it's not exactly romantic when the two main characters hook up!!

And he looked sooo hot throughout the movie in his flannels and beard. And, true to every movie where a guy isn't Hollywood Hot, they give him a makeover. A makeover!!!

Pfft! If anyone needed a makeover, it was Renée Zellweger. I mean, aside from her usual I've-been-busy-sucking-lemons-all-day look, she wasn't looking her best. That haircut did NOTHING for her. The whole time I was looking at her huge forehead praying that halfway through the flick they'd give her some bangs.
gidget: Jem, didn't you know that being a corporate lady means you need to have a severe haircut? It showcases how you mean business. Bangs, i don't have time for bangs. See my forehead?! It means it's business time!

My favourite part of the movie was when she got herself a warm coat.
Jeez, it doesn't sound like I liked the movie at all, does it. I guess I just liked looking at Harry Connick Jr. for 90 minutes!
gidget: Hahaha...i agree. Poor Renée, botox has not been kind to her face. She justs look weird now.
Positives: the movie is watchable, Harry Connick Jr. during the first half of the movie, Renée's character's asstitant's hair.

Negatives: too predictable, the first romantic scene is awkward, Renee's outfits, HCJ's lack of scruff at the end of the movie.

If I were to make a movie about Hugh Jackman...

Jem: Hugh Jackman was incredibly hawt in Australia. And, like I told Gidget, if we were to make a movie with Hugh Jackman in it, this wouldn't be too far off.

I can just here the convo now...

Jem: Ok, ok...so, he's definitely gotta be a cowboy

Gidget: OMJ! Yes!! And he's really buff! Like 300 buff!

Jem: Yeah! And he's kinda scruffy.

Gidget: Yeah! Because he's really rough around the edges and he gets into fights and stuff because his heart was broken in the past.

Jem: Ooooh! A tortured man! I love it! But can we have a scene to show off his muscles? Like say he's had a hard day and he wants to clean himself up a bit and so he's lathering himself up and then pours water over himself slowly?

Gidget: We absolutely MUST have a scene like that.

Jem: and we should clean him up at one point too. Because Hugh is gorgeous both ways.

Gidget: True! He looks like Cary Grant. Let's set the movie during the 30's and 40's so he can dress well.

Jem: You're a genius!

Now, of course there would be a few minor differences if Gidget and I had ACTUALLY made the movie. There probably be almost NO Nicole Kidman in the movie. And, let's be honest, there would be a scene where Hugh emerges from a swimming pool in slow motion.

Basically, there would be a LOT of water involved.

Well, it's about time!!!

Jem: Finally, the world has recognized the sexiest of the sexy! All I have to say is "What took you so long?"
Everyone knows that Hugh Jackman is, hands-down, the perfect man. He is crazy-gorgeous, comes with an accent, brilliant actor, he sings and dances, has an older, normal-looking wife and seems like a great dad. What's not to love?

gidget: sometimes I love it when the obvious is stated!

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

gidget: i love this song so much right now it's just....it's beyond descriptors.
Jem: Me too! Although, i can come up with a few descriptors...it's completely adorable, and catchy and sweet and it has a story and the boys look so cute and...you're right, gidget, it is beyond descriptors.

OMG Christina Ricci!

Jem: I get the look you're trying to acheive here...and it's almost working except for this backless part...

Despite the icky side-boob, what is up with the ribs!? Eat something!? Eat 3 somethings!

Start with this cheeseburger:

Separated at Birth????

gidget: Hmmm...for some reason Derek Hough of DWTS reminds of Jereth. No, not just David Bowie, but David Bowie Labyrinth years. Too bad Ryan is like Jereth's younger uglier brother, not like his twin. Perhaps Ryan should learn to do the Magic Dance.

DUUUUUUDE!

gidget: drew barrymore likes 'em young! Can you believe she hooked up with Ed Westwick? Vanity Fair caught them snogging at a Kings Of Leon concert so it must be true. Just look at the photo below, is that not proof enough for you???
i must admit i am a tad jelly 'cause i think Mr. Westwick is a bit of a fox.
oh oh oh wait! the kissing news doesn't end there! InTouch magazine is claiming to have photos of drew in lip lock with Landon Pigg (one of the actors in barrymore's upcoming directorial debut Whip It). Drew's lips have been busy.
Pretty much the cutest thing...evahhh...
Jem: Ok, this tiny video of this cutie-pie is so great. It's just about the cutest thing I've seen lately (and that includes human boys)

gidget: Bah!!!! so cute!

90210h no!

gidget: Really, why are the girls on the new 90210 so crazy thin??? Gotta love how the original Beverly Hills 90210 featured curvy Shannon Doherty.
Jem: I couldn't agree with you more, Gidget! I mean, the entire time I'm watching the show, I just think to myself how "Annie" needs to eat 17 cheeseburgers. Those girls are painfully thin!

Time For A Change

gidget: You gotta give it to Victoria Beckham, the girl knows how to make an entrance. It takes style to steal some of the attention away from a Marc Jacobs runway show. Posh stole some of the spotlight from NYC fashion week not just for the showcase of her new line of dresses, but for when she debuted her new pixie haircut at Marc Jacobs show. Some people love it, some people hate it, not much in the middle ground. Posh's hair has always stirred strong opinions.

I love it! Total cutesicle points in my book. I think Victoria Beckham has lovely, delicate facial features. The hair showcases her fabulous cheekbones and aides in making her look like less of a robot. Plus, Posh has been sporting the symmetrical bob for a good junk of time. She has seen many a lady come out of a salon attempting to achieve her look. It's fall, time for a change.
Beckham's hair was sculpted by celebrity hair stylist Garren, who is reported to have cut the legendary Audrey Hepburn's hair. When Beckham goes to get a gamine hairstyle, she does it right. Oh, and I also think Posh looks Ah Maz Ing in dark hair.

Flax Sisters Do NYC Fashion Week

gidget: I have not seen Mermaids in foreves. Lets take a quick look at the past first shall we....

Then:
Christina Ricci is adorable and Winona Ryder is awkward.

Now:

Christina looks hot (still a bit of a lollipop head, but she is looking better. She was WAY too thin a couple years ago). Winona awkward and crazy pale. I think Winona may still live in 1994.

p.s. cute dress ricci!
Kelly Cutrone might be a bitch but I think she's my hero!
Jem: So, I was super-duper envious of Whitney on The Hills last week when her boss, Kelly, TOTALLY hooked her up with one of the male models from the shoot. It was super obvious and more-than-slightly embarrassing for Whitney but at least she ended up on a date!
Apparently, this is just one of many perks one receives on top of the $85K salary.
I know a lot of people think Kelly is mean and a ball-breaker. I like that she's tough. And she's obviously successful for a reason. I also love it when she calls these stupid girls on their shit and makes LC pee her pants!
Now she's telling all the other single ladies of the world where to find hot, straight Australian guys during Fashion Week. Someone needs to give this woman a medal!!!
Not the only ones who love Kylie...
Jem: It's pretty obvious that Christina is a big fan of our girl, Kylie. Her VMA performance was so, super-inspired by her. I LOVED it!!!!

gidget: i dunno, i felt like she was trying a little to hard to be like Lady GaGa
Crush du jour!

Jem: I guess Coyote Ugly's Adam Garcia has been doing a lot of work on Broadway. He is so super-adorable!

And I'm not the only one who thinks so...my girl Kylie thinks so, too!

I'm Just Saying is All

gidget: Joe Jonas was born to wear headbands.
Jem: I couldn't agree with you more. He's pretty much as cute as a puppy.
